Commando di Marina Reala Britannico, 1942–1945

Table of Organisation & Equipaggiamento

Commando di Marina Reala Britannico, 1942-1945

Unpainted conversions of paracadutisti britannici showing the different parts which turned them into Commandos di marina reale. From left to right: Esci paracadutista con elmetto da fanteria die ESCI, Revell Para con legs from another Revell Para e beret from un paracadutista della NATO di Matchbox, Airfix paracadutista con stocking cap from an Airfix Commando ed an Airfix paracadutista con elmetto da fanteria di ESCI. The parts are pinned together con 0.6 mm pianowire e then secured con white glue. So many interesting converstions may be created in this way that every man in the troop can be a different figure.

Combined Operations

I fanti di marina reale have a long tradition as the elite amphibious force dell’esercito britannico. In dicembre of 1939, the Royal Marine (Amphibious) Brigade was formed, ed it participated in the Narvik campaign in 1940. Marine units at duty stations in the Far East formed ad hoc raiding detachments operating against i giapponesi nel 1941 e 1942. The original Commando della marina reale was raised on 14 febbraio 1942. The unit participated in the Dieppe landings, where it suffered heavy caduti e was subsequently rebuilt as #40 (Royal Marine) Commando. In preparation for the invasion of Europe, additional battaglioni fanteria di marina reale were converted ai Commandos della marina reale as follows:

  • #41 (RM) Commando, Oct. 1942
  • #42 (RM) Commando, Aug. 1943
  • #43 (RM) Commando, Aug. 1943
  • #44 (RM) Commando, Aug. 1943
  • #45 (RM) Commando, Aug. 1943
  • #46 (RM) Commando, Aug. 1943
  • #47 (RM) Commando, Aug. 1943
  • #48 (RM) Commando, Mar. 1944

The official strength of a Commando della marine reale was established at 450 all ranks. The men were not volunteers like the Commandos del esercito, they were drawn from battaglioni della fanteria di marina reale whenever replacements were needed. As a result, i Commandos della marine reale tended to have fewer replacement difficulties than the Commandos del esercito who depended on volunteers from reggimenti regolari e territorial who wished to join them.

Uniforms

I Commandos della marina reale wore a regulation uniforme Battle Bress britannico, 1937 web gear e the elmetto Mk. I (tin hat) britannico. In addition, camouflage smocks similar to those worn by the paracadutisti were issued. I Commandos della marina reale wore green Commando berets con the marina reale cap badge. Stocking caps were popular as well. To recreate i Commandos della marina reale in miniature, some conversion work is required:

  • Torso from paracadutisti britannici di Revell, ESCI o Airfix.
  • Elmetto "tin hat" from fanteria britannica o 8th Armata, preferably con mesh cover.
  • Beret from Commandos del esercito britannico o paracadutisti della NATO di Matchbox (No. 40909).
  • Stocking cap from Commandos del esercito di Matchbox o Airfix.
