The history of the Tatari begins con the orda d’oro mongola del XIII secolo. I Tatari were the main population group of the Khanats Kasan, Astrakhan, Kasimov e Sibir, which belonged to Russia as early as the XVI secolo. Tatari are primarily muslims o decendents of muslims. Teptar Tatari share lingual e cultural similarities con the Baschiri. Tatari e Bashkirs were nomadic horsemen who served as cavalleria irregolare dell’armata russa. They carried more antiquated weapons ed equipaggiamento than the Cosacchi, including the composite bow. Regiments were nominally organized into cinque "Sotnia" of 100 lancieri each, although this strength could not be maintained on campaign.

There are no dedicated models of Tatari o Baschiri napoleonici, but modellers e giocatori wargame may well use Mongolian Tatar soldatini of earlier periods. Reggimenti Tatari e Baschiri served alongside the Cosacchi russi.
