Schützenpanzer Marder 1 Veicolo da Combattimento della Fanteria

In 1971, the German Bundeswehr received the new Schützenpanzer Marder to replace earlier SPz HS 30 e MTW M113 in the battaglioni Panzergrenadier e Jäger meccanizzato, respectively. A total of 2136 SPz Marder were ordered, e 2100 remain in service today. The Marder was designed as a group vehicle, it carries tre crew e six fanti motorizzati who may fight mounted o dismounted. The vehicle shown here is a ROCO model of the early production Marder 1. These veicoli were repeatedly upgraded to improve their firepower, night fighting ability e survivability. Between 1977 e 1979, the Marder was fitted con a MILAN anti-tank guided missile system which may also be employed by the dismounted fanteria squad.

  848 veicoli were upgraded by 1993, they received applique armour, external stowage bins, improved chassis e torrette. The remaining 1252 Marder 1.A2 will eventually be upgraded as well, e they will continue to serve well into the XXI secolo.

Schützenpanzer Marder is a sophisticated veicolo da combattimento della fanteria capable of keeping up con fast-moving carri da combattimento in any terrain. The Marder is well-armed ed it provides adequate armour protection for the Panzergrenadiers inside. Its only drawback is the unusually high silhouette e the fact that the MILAN gunner needs to stand up in the torretta hatch to fire the anti-tank guided missile.
