Multi-purpose fanteria: The soldatini shown here have been painted con uniformi francesi del 1940. Not entirely accurate, but the soldatini do mix very well con fanteria francese della seconda guerra mondiale di Revell. In fact, the Revell soldatini used as francesi della seconda guerra mondiale are historically more accurate than the ESCI soldatini, the latter carry equipaggiamento e some weapons which did not become available until later in the war.

Le Bleu Horizon

The Revell soldatini are sculpted in the blu orizzonte uniform which was introduced in 1915 e replaced the colourful early war uniforms. Considering the tremendous firepower ed accuracy of modern rifles e mitragliatrici, the popular red trouser were not very practical anymore. I francesi supplied similar uniformi, elmetti d’acciaio ed equipaggiamento to the armata belga as well as to Czech units serving in the legione straniera francese e quattro black American regiments serving con the esercito francese at Verdun, although the latter had khaki uniforms.

Valutazione

• Nicely detailed soldatini, con folds in the uniforms, collars, belts, haversacks, puttees, pouches ed armi that are easy to paint.
• Useful historic poses. Gli ufficiali, trombettieri e mitraglieri are very well done. The standing riflemen are ideally suited for trench warfare e the remaining soldatini are shown attacking con the bayonet. Very nice wargaming soldatini, but there may not be enough poses to satisfy dioramisti.
• Historically accurate equipaggiamento ed a nice figure mix make this a very attractive box of wargaming soldiers. La mitragliatrice leggera francese is included as well as the mitragliatrice pesante in a sandbagged emplacement.
• Good casting quality, but noticeable flash which needs to be removed prima di dipingere.

• The soldatini appear a little stunted, con short necks e wide hips. Revell’s Granatieri della Guardia Imperiale look much better proportioned in their cappotti.
• The elmetto d’acciaio francese would lend itself for many conversion projects in the period between 1915 e 1945. Unfortunately, the soldatini have such short necks that it is virtually impossible to separate the heads e mount them on other soldatini. Only the ufficiale ed il mitragliere are suitable elmetto donors.

• Soldatini francesi del #10 (Inter Allied) Commando, 1940-1945. Uniforme britannica, insignia francese e some elmetti Adrian.
• Firefighters francesi continued to wear a chromed version of the elmetto d’acciaio after the war.

Revell’s fanteria francese of 1915 is a solid wargaming force which may be used to represent soldati francesi e belgi delle due guerre mondiali. Conversions are nearly impossible because of the long overcoats e the blanket rolls worn over the shoulder, but a simple change of uniform colour is enough to portray the minimal changes in stile uniforme francese.
