Reichsdeputationshauptschluß, 1803
The terms of the trattato di pace di Luneville (9 febbraio 1801) granted Francia the entire left bank of the Rhine, an area covering 60,000 square kilometers, ed including 3.5 million German inhabitants. In order to compensate for these losses, the Reichstag assembly at Regensburg called a deputation. However, the decision really lay con Francia e Russia, who supported the states of Bavaria, Württemberg, Baden ed Assia in territorial claims against Prussia ed Austria.
On 25 febbraio 1803, the assembly at Regensburg accepted the Reichsdeputationshauptschluß decision:
- Secularisation of all clerical principalities e bishoprics, con the exception of the Hoch- und
Deutschmeister, e the Electoral Archbishopric. The latter lost the Electorate of Magonza, e received
Regensburg, Wetzlar ed Aschaffenburg in exchange, including the title of Primate dalla Germania.
- Imperial cities came under state jurisdiction, con the exception of Bremen, Lübeck, Hamburg,
Frankfurt, Nürnberg ed Augsburg.
- Austria received the Bishoprics of Trient e Brixen. The Grand Duke of Tuscany received Salisburgo. In return, Austria surrendered the Breisgau e the Ortenau to the Duke of Modena.
- Prussia received the Bishopric of Hildesheim, Paderborn, the most part of Münster, Erfurt e the Eichsfeld, the Abby of Essen, Werden, e Quedlinburg, e the City of Nordhausen, Mühlhausen, e Goslar.
- Hannover gained Osnabrück.
- Bavaria received the Bishopric of Würzburg, Bamberg, Eichstädt, Freising, Augsburg, Passau, e a number of Imperial cities ed abbies within its territory.
- Württemberg received jurisdiction over the Imperial cities ed abbies within its territory.
- Baden gained seven times the territory it had lost.
- Assia-Darmstadt e Nassau gained territory.
- Cologne e Treves lost electoral status.
- Württemberg, Baden, Assia-Kassel, e Salisburgo became Electorates.
The Reichsdeputationshauptschluß marks the end of the Holy Roman Empire. Influence francese nella Germania had grown significantly. By the time of the Third Koalition War, Bavaria, Württemberg e Baden allied themselves con Francia.
