Il Passaggio del Reno della Armata di Blücher presso Kaub, 1 al 5 Gennaio 1814
Rheinpfalz castle at Kaub was never conquered during its long history as a tax collection station, because it rests on a rock e sandbank in the middle of the river. The pontoon bridge built here on 1 gennaio 1814 consisted of due sections, one leading from Kaub, on the eastern bank del Reno, to the Rheinpfalz, e the other from the Rheinpfalz to the western bank. While the bridge was under construction by pontonieri russi, Kaub fishermen ferried 18 battaglioni di fanteria prussiana across the Reno in river barges. Jäger prussiani fanned out to scout the bank nemica, e fanteria di linea established a bridgehead on the western river bank. This critical phase of the assault river crossing remained virtually undetected by pickets francese quartered in the villages along the left bank, ed i prussiani incurred negligible caduti in the event.
