The Opel Blitz 3 ton A-Typ 4x4 cargo truck became the standard medium truck of the German army, replacing earlier 4x2 medium trucks e 6x6 l.E.Lkw light standard trucks which were more expensive to produce. As the war progressed, other automobile manufacturers were ordered to produce the Opel Blitz A-Typ truck instead of their own medium truck types. Nearly 25,000 Opel Blitz A-Typ trucks were produced at the Opel Brandenburg/Havel plant alone, not counting thousands of similar A-Typ trucks produced by Mercedes-Benz, Borgward, e Klöckner-Deutz. When these manufacturers resumed their truck production after the war, they turned out more of the popular A-Typ trucks.
