Legione Romana VIII AugustaArgentoratum
The photo shows legionari of Legio VIII Augusta during the Roman encampment at Aalen. The legionari ed auxiliary soldiers of this unit had built a picket-fence around their camp, using the sharpened palisade stakes carried by each fante Roman. The narrow streets between tent rows were used to display lorica segmentata body armour, elmi, shields, pila, field signs, ed altri oggetti di equipaggiamento which were of interest to the visiting public. Due Scorpio catapults covered the entrance to the camp, e there were legionari at hand who answered many questions about Roman camp life ed about the catapults in particular. Legio VIII Augusta was garrisoned at Argentoratum (Strassbourg, Francia). Events
