Bönder, Nave Cargo del XVIII Secolo

The Bönder was a typical XVIII secolo merchant vessel used for regular freight e passenger traffic on the Middle e Lower Rhine as well as in coastal waters. Bönder type ships were up to 36 m long e 6.5 m wide. The hull is round e carries a drop-keel on either side. There is a large rudder at the stern. The huts between the due masts house the captain’s family, passengers e crew. The model shown here is moored at Kaiserswerth near Düsseldorf.
