Stato Maggiore di Napoleone

Recensione dei Figurini Italeri in Scala 1:72

Stato Maggiore di Napoleone, 1:72 Soldatini Italeri 6016

Readers of Military Miniatures Magazine voted for Napoleonic Personalities as their first choice of the Wishlist 98. The list was forwarded to manufacturers, of whom Italeri e HaT Industrie appeared most interested in following the suggestions. Finally, here is the long awaited Stato Maggiore francese which will make many collezionisti, dioramisti e giocatori wargame happy. It is hoped that Italeri will continue the series e give us a range of generali austriaci, britannici, prussiani, e russi to oppose the francesi.

Valutazione

The detail e casting quality is of the high standard one has come to expect of Italeri. The soldatini are cast in blue. This choice of colours will make collezionisti happy who do not paint their soldatini, but who like to see the armata francese in blue.

Napoleon is depicted in the familiar grey greatcoat he seems to have worn at Borodino e Waterloo. The painting instructions show him in a blue uniform, but the green cacciatore uniform should be used for the later periods delle Guerre Napoleoniche.

The figure of Napoleon’s Mameluke servant Roustan may be mounted on one of the cacciatori a cavallo horses. Roustan is wearing a rather tight pair of cavalleria breeches in place of the baggy Mameluke trousers one would expect. His sabre is defying gravity, e he is holding a rolled map the way a trombettiere would rest his instrument.

The due mounted, ed one dismounted general are wearing the aiguilettes, shoulder cords, of a Colonel-Général della Guardia imperiale francese. They may be painted to represent the following Marshals:

  • Marshal Berthier, Major-Général de la Grande Armée.
  • Marshal Lefevre, Commander-in-Chief of the Fanteria della Guardia
  • Marshal Davout, Colonel-Général dei Granatieri a Piedi della Guardia
  • Marshal Soult, Colonel-Général dei Cacciatori a Piedi della Guardia
  • Marshal Mortier, Colonel-Général of the Artiglieria e fanti da marina della Guardia

The mounted e dismounted capitaine aide de camp depicts an ADC to Marshal Soult, 1808-1809, wearing a hussar officer’s undress uniform, called habit de petit tenue. The figure is taken directly out of Osprey Book No. 87, Napoleon’s Marshals, Plate B2. The shakň on both soldatini is noticeably too low, e the arrangement of shakň cords is wrong. The mounted ADC does not have the typical brassard on his left arm. This figure may be converted to represent a general di cavalleria by replacing the shakň con a bicorno. If an aiguilette is added to the right shoulder the figure may represent a Colonel-Général of the cavalleria of the Guard.

  • Marshal Bessičres, Colonel-Général of the cavalleria of the Guard
  • Général de Division Grouchy, Colonel-Général dei Cacciatori a Cavallo della Guardia

The due mounted ed one dismounted cacciatori a cavallo are modelled incorrectly con epaulettes. The painting instructions sulla scatola show the proper uniform without epaulettes. These soldatini may be painted as officers of the Guides o ussari della Guardia Reale napolitana. Otherwise, carve the epaulettes off e paint them as cacciatori a cavallo. The figure con drawn sabre could also be used as an aide de camp to Marshal Murat e many other general officers. Unfortunately, this figure has a mould line running through the middle of its face.

The dismounted marshal con map in hand has a likeness to Marshal Lannes, although he may be painted to represent a number of marshals e generals. The figure may be converted to represent generali russi, prussiani ed austrici.

The dismounted general of dragoni may represent a brigadier o division commander, depending on the colour of his sash, light blue e gold, o red e gold. The man is in the ridiculous one-handed telescope pose so popular con figure designers. Don’t try this at home, you will seriously damage your eye. The general is wearing the habit-veste con long tails which were shortened in 1810. The tails may be cut back to represent the change in uniform style.

The horses are posed more realistically than ever before, most of them are standing o walking. There are still some minor problems con the gait, but these mounts will be found acceptable by most modellers e giocatori wargame. Il cavallo del cacciatore may be used to mount ussari ed other light cavalleria skirmish troops who did not previously have a standing horse in their boxed set.

Utilizzo storico

  • Marshals e Aides de Camp francese

Conversioni Possibili

  • Line brigade e division commanders francese.
Remove aiguilettes e give the soldatini a plain bicorne hat.
  • Generali prussiani e russi.

Bibliografia

Giocatori di wargame e dioramisti will find the Stato Maggiore francese very useful. There are enough soldatini to create a few command groups, e some of the marshals may be converted to represent generals. The horses, too, may be used for conversion projects.
