Ufficiali di zuavi often wore a uniform which differed from that of the men. Regulation frock coats were common, con red pants, braided kepis, e Confederate style cuff lace indicating the officer’s zuavi status.

Yellow o red braiding on dark blue zuavi jackets looks particularly striking if the braid is painted white first, e then stained con in the appropriate colour. The stain should have a milky consistancy, allowing it to flow into e completely cover the white undercoating.
