Polizeitruppe

Deployment of German Colonial Police Forces, maggio 1914

German Askari paramilitary police

German Polizeitruppen in the colonies were established under the direct supervision of the civillian authorities there, con the exception of the "Chinesen-Polizei" which served under the Kiautschou Gouvernement.

The soldatini shown here sono fanti giapponesi di Airfix, converted to German East-African Polizei-Askari. The elmetto d’acciaio has been carved into a pillbox cap. Other soldatini giapponesi wearing a field cap con neck flap may be converted in a similar fashion. The advantage of using the Airfix soldatini giapponesi is that they already wear the proper type of puttie. The Matchbox soldatini giapponesi will be useful as well, it contains mitraglieri e several kneeling soldatini which may be converted to assistant mitraglieri.

The khaki police uniform con field grey putties, brown shoes e leather pouches is the same as that worn by Schutztruppe askari soldiers, con the addition of a white oval badge above the left elbow con a red letter P (Polizei). Rank was indicated by a perfectly triangular khaki badge on the upper arm, one point down, con one to quattro red chevrons inside: Gefreiter (senior private), Unteroffizier o Sergeant (corporal), Vizefeldwebel o Vizewachtmeister in mounted units (sergeant), Feldwebel o Wachtmeister in mounted units (sergeant major). Togo Polizei soldiers wore a similar uniform, but they had a much lower cap, not unlike a Schirmmütze modello 1813 della Landwehr prussiana con the visor removed, red con a black tassel in the rear, no putties e bare feet.
