Ufficiale 5th (Princess Charlotte of Wales) Dragoon Guards nella Spagna, 1812. The 5th Dragoon Guards fought at the Battle of Salamanca on 22 luglio 1812, approximately 90 km northeast of Ciudad Rodrigo nella Spagna. Led by their commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel William Ponsonby, e supported by the 3rd e 4th Dragoons, the 5th Dragoon Guards spearheaded the charge of Major-General John Gaspard Le Marchant’s Brigade cavalleria britannica. The 5th Dragoon Guards e 6th Inniskilling Dragoons were amalgamated in 1929 to form the 5th Royal Inniskilling Guards. On 1 agosto 1992 this reggimento was amalgamated con the 4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guards to form the Royal Dragoon Guards. Today, the Royal Dragoon Guards are a reggimento carro pesante, equipped con carri da combattimento Challenger 2.
