Diese Auswahl von Uniformen europäischer Armeen will Entwicklungslinien von deren Uniformierung verdeutlichen sowie wichtige Momente des Zusammenhangs mit der Bewaffnung und Ausrüstung erhellen. Uniformen europäischer Armeen provides a colourful overview of the development of the military uniform from the guerra dei trent’anni al prima guerra mondiale, con a focus on the major European conflicts of the period, namely the War of Spanish Succession, the Guerra dei Sette Anni, Guerre Rivoluzionarie Francesi e Guerre Napoleoniche, Crimean War, Italian Unification (Risorgimento), German Unification, guerra franco-prussiana, e prima guerra mondiale. The attractive colour plates feature one to eight uniforms per page, many of which have not been covered by other uniform guides. The uniforms are often accompanied by close-ups of cap badges, sabre hilts, muskets, tools, tricorno hats, shakos, elmi, lance pennons, buttons, flags, e drummers’ lace. Giocatori Wargame will find the illustrations easy to follow, because the colours are blocked in, heavily shaded e highlighted in small-scale miniature painting style.

Unfortunately, many of the illustrations are considered to be representational of a particular troop type of an army, like fanteria hannoveriana circa 1758, e the reggimenti shown are not identified in the accompanying text. Experienced figure painters e historians should be able to cross-reference these uniforms con other available sources, like Knötel-Sieg’s Handbuch der Uniformkunde to correctly identify the regiment. Beginners may have to look elsewhere to locate the reggimenti of their chosen army.
