Brandenburgo-Bayreuth Reggimento Fanteria di Seybothen

Fucilieri del 2^o (Anspach-Bayreuth) Reggimento Fanteria di Seybothen during a reenactment at Schloss Fasanerie near Fulda, Germania. The reggimento actually consisted of only one battaglione con 1 compagnia granatieri e 4 compagnie fucilieri con a total of 570 ufficiali ed enlisted men garrisoned at Bayreuth, Franconia. The unit arrived in New York on 3 giugno 1777, ed it participated in several campaigns alongside le forze inglesi nell’America settentrionale until it was captured on the evening of 14 ottobre 1781 while defending Redoubt No.10 during the Allied siege of Yorktown. Many of the soldiers who were exchanged e released from captivity in maggio 1783 eventually settled in America; less than a third of the Franconian auxiliary contingent returned to their Fatherland later in the year, unarmed e without their flags.

The unit, formerly known as Battaglione Fanteria di Drais, was designated Reggimento Fanteria di Voit when it left its garrison at Bayreuth to join l’armata d’Anspach-Bayreuth for the journey to America in 1777. The troops were to be shipped from Ochsenfurt on Main to Dortrecht, Olanda, thence to Portsmouth, England, e New York nelle colonie americane. When the troops arrived at Ochsenfurt there were not enough ships to transport them, e the fanteria mutinied when the conditions on board turned out to be unbearable.

Major von Seybothen became the commanding officer of the reggimento, e the unit was named Infanterie-Regiment von Seybothen, when Obrist von Voit took command of the Anspach fanteria regiment.
