Castrum Romano Bodobrica al Boppard sul Reno, costruite 357–359 D.C.

Castrum Romano Bodobrica al Boppard sul Reno, costruite 357–359 D.C. The late Roman Castle Bodobrica was constructed at Boppard, 357–359 D.C., when the Rhine river was again established as the borderline of the Roman Empire in this province of Germania I (prima). Bodobrica was a large rectangular castle con strong walls e 28 towers spaced 25 metri apart. The two-storied stone towers were 9 metri tall e 8.6 metri in diameter, con an interior space of 3.6 metri in diameter, e walls 2.5 metri thick. Wooden battlements protected the soldiers on towers e curtain walls. Bodobrica was garrisoned by milites balistarii, Roman artiglieria, ed it is probable that balista torsion artiglieria was deployed on the towers. The small room inside each tower had no firing slits o windows, it was used to store ammunition for the balista, ed it could be reached by a ladder let down from the tower platform.

Several of the towers e wall sections can still be seen in Boppard today. Towers VI to IX have been preserved in their present state, e they are part of the exhibit area along the southern castle wall. Some of the other towers e wall sections have been incorporated into buildings, the most impressive of them being the Weinhaus Römer-Burg restaurant at the northeastern corner of the castle. The Romanic Pfarrkirche church stands on the foundations of the Roman baths at Bodobrica e the Christian church which was subsequently built here by the Romans. An early Christian baptismal font e part of the foundations are on display inside the church.
