Cannone Contraerei Tedesco da 20 mm FlaK 38

The 2 cm Flak 38 was developed from the earlier FlaK 30 which had seen service in the guerra civile spagnola. FlaK 38 fired 420 colpi al minuto, compared to only 280 colpi for the FlaK 30. The increased rate of fire made a difference nel tiro contraerei where a low-flying target could only be engaged for a brief moment. The weapon shown here is a single-barreled version of the FlaK 38, which was also available as a FlaK-Zwilling con due barrels, ed a FlaK-Vierling con quattro barrels. The resin model has been sprayed RAL 7028 Dunkelgelb, using Humbrol 94 con 30% white added. The camouflage pattern of RAL 8017 Schokoladenbraun, e RAL 6003 Olivgrün was painted on afterwards, again using 30% white for scale effect. The FlaK 38 is being towed by an Opel Blitz truck. In an emergency, the weapon could be fired from its u-shaped trailer, although it took only seconds to pull the locking pin e let the gun platform slide onto the ground.

Apparently, there are pictures of the FlaK 38 on a low affusto for use as a cannone anticarro by Volkssturm milizia units. It is very likely that this gun had substantial anti-tank capabilities o at least stocks of good munizione to commend it for that role. A gun of this type can be seen in the film "Private Ryan". The FlaK 38 gun was also popular during the early Russian campaign for firing at carri armati T-26 e B.T. sovietici. There are photos of autoblindo leggero Sd.Kfz. 221 mounting this weapon, instead of the mitragliatrice leggera they had previously been armed con exclusively.

The German 2 cm FlaK 38 was a reliable ed accurate cannone contraerei which doubled as an anti-tank weapon in emergency situations. There are several scale models of the FlaK 38, including the many self-propelled versions which appeared in the course of the war.
